The Advantages of American Boarding Schools

Parents elect to send their children to American boarding schools for any number of reasons, but the most common reasons – educational excellence and focus on the individual - are the most prominent assets of these programs. Whether you are interested in helping your child find the discipline they’ve lost or simply want your child to be challenged and prepared for the finest universities in the country, American boarding schools are an excellent choice.

Curriculum
The curriculum at boarding schools is much more stringent and challenging than at public or even most private schools. As the students are able to dedicate more time to their studies without the distractions of home life, the expectations for these children is greater. Boarding schools, like many private schools, are not bogged down with governmental regulations and are able to teach much more than the state’s minimum curriculum. They are able to include many more electives and language courses that truly prepare and enrich these students.

College Readiness
Without the distraction of nonessential curriculum supplied by the state, American boarding schools are able to truly prepare students for college. The smaller class sizes and higher expectations of these institutions challenge these bright learners and instill all fundamentals required for excellence at the college level.

Discipline
Many boarding schools focus on reinstalling discipline and purpose in students who have fallen away from the behavioral norms and standards we, as a society, expect. In short, many American boarding schools offer behavior training and plans these students so desperately need. Many institutions have long records of success, and are able to work one-on-one with children no matter how severe the issue.

Peer Group
The most precise indicator of student achievement is actually found around the students. If you want your child to succeed, put them around other smart kids. Boarding schools are the perfect example of this, and in many cases, boarding schools go a bit farther and restrict student enrollment to a specific gender. Recent studies have shown that students do exceedingly well in single-sex environments, and boarding schools are one of the few opportunities to offer this asset to your child.

Teacher/Student Ratio
The final, and to some most significant, aspect of American boarding schools is the small number of students in each class. Teachers are able to connect with students and offer individualized attention. This relationship with professionals inspires these students, and as instructors at American boarding schools are some of the most highly trained in the industry, students benefit tremendously from their knowledge.
