Many people overindulge on the weekends. The weekend usually entails sleeping in late, watching television, surfing the net, going out with friends, and overindulging on unhealthy foods. This type of a lifestyle may be fine for some individuals, but how about those people who wish to maintain a healthy diet?
Overindulging on the weekends can have a very negative effect on someone who wishes to maintain a healthy lifestyle or lose weight. A recent study has proven that most adults take in an additional 222 calories over the weekend. This is mostly due to the fact that we find it necessary to reward ourselves for our long week of hard work. But why does food have to be our reward? Food is without a doubt the most common reward that most people reach towards. Whether you lost some weight and you wish to reward yourself or you worked really hard all week long and you wish to reward yourself, the most popular reward in both cases is food. The way I see it, why not reward yourself with a relaxing massage on a Saturday, or even go buy something special for yourself. It does not have to be expensive.
As for going out on the weekends, the amount of calories we consume is sky high (especially if we are having alcoholic beverages along with our meals). I’m sure that many of us are aware of the fact that one simple pina colada can have 500 calories. So think twice before you order those two for one fruity treats. Instead opt for a glass of wine or a light beer. And if you are going to be running errands on the weekend and you wish to avoid fast food joints, simply throw an apple in your purse as a means of sustaining your hunger until you get home. These are just a few ideas in putting an end to weekend overindulging.
