By Dale E. Stuemke | Published 07/3/2008 | Goal Setting | Unrated
Yes, that's my topic in this article. I've heard these reasons, and more, for not setting and pursuing goals. The people that give these reasons really believe them. And, every one of these reasons work! What does that mean? It means that if you use any of them, they will help you NOT reach your goal!
» Where are Your Goals Taking You?

When you come to a fork in the road, how do you know which one to take? The well-known quotation from Lewis Carroll's "Alice In Wonderland" addresses this question so well: Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here? The Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to. Alice: I don't much care where. The Cat: Then it doesn't much matter which way you go. Alice: …so long as I get somewhere. The Cat: Oh, you're sure to do that, if only you walk long enough.
» Are You Too Old to Have Goals?
By Dale E. Stuemke | Published 05/28/2008 | Goal Setting | Rating:
I was visiting with a friend the other day; we were talking about some of the things I have written about setting goals. I was surprised to hear her say: "Oh, I'm too old to have goals!" Yes, I was surprised, especially since we're both about the same age! I responded that you're never too old to have goals, but I've been thinking about it a lot ever since. Is there a time when you're "too old" to have goals? Let's take a look at a few examples.
» Answer Three Questions and Make Your Goals Attainable

If you've done very much reading about the subject of setting goals, you've probably seen acronym "SMART." This acronym stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic/Relevant, and Time Bound. That's a pretty good set of considerations, but I'm going to focus on just one in this article.
» Four Reasons Humans Act Like Crabs
By Dale E. Stuemke | Published 05/12/2008 | Goal Setting | Rating:
I received an interesting question from Mary Ann S. on Gather.com. She had read one of my recent articles, "Eliminate Negative, Achieve Goals," and had a question. "I teach college English where I see students sabotage themselves and who also let others sabotage them. Why do friends and family members put obstacles in their paths?" She also mentioned how people will tempt their friends who are on diets with sweets and other "off-diet" foods.
